What I ate in a day for health and weight loss. I mostly eat veggies and beans (lentils, tofu & tempeh too), that's what makes up most of my diet. I snack too. Every evening I have popcorn and many days I have some dark chocolate. I don't deprive myself, I just make sure I get in lots of veggies, greens and beans.
A lot of you already know, but for those who don't know, I basically follow a nutritarian diet. Don't know what that is? I highly recommend you check out the book "Eat to Live" by Dr. Joel Fuhrman.
To sum it up, I try to eat foods that have the most nutrition per calorie. For example, I would choose quinoa over rice or a sweet potato over a regular potato, berries over a banana, stuff like that.
I try to get in a lot of GBOMBS.
G-Greens
B-Beans
O-Onions (and garlic)
M-Mushrooms (although I don't care for them, they are healthy)
B-Berries
S-Seeds (and nuts)
This way of eating is best for people who have autoimmune diseases, like myself. It's great for overall health, for prevention, and for weight loss.
When I eat this way I lose the most weight. For those who don't know my story. I once weighed 225 pounds, then I lost 80 pounds. I went to 145.
Recently I got up to 157, which is what usually happens in the winter.
Now I've been eating better, I'm back on track, and now I weigh 150. I lost seven pounds in around a month. I still have more to go...
Short term goal- back down to 145.
Long term goal- 140.
Long, long term goal- 137 (my favorite number).
Even though I want to lose weight and get in better shape, the number one priority is being healthy and happy.
I'm currently in a normal weight range for my heigh. However, I would like to be more on the lower end. Not in the middle or higher range.
Eating plant based makes it real easy for me to never be obese, like I once was. However, my body likes to fluctuate 5-10 pounds really easily. I have a stubborn body and usually gain in the winter, due to lack of exercise and eating more vegan comfort foods.
Personally, foods like grains, pastas, and other heavy, starchy foods don't work best for my body. I know a lot of people do great eating a lot of these foods and that's great, but when I eat them I tend to gain weight or just maintain, not lose. I have IBS, a very sluggish GI track and foods that have high fiber are best for me....hence the greens and beans.
