Just recently, Porsche celebrated their 70th anniversary as a sports car manufacturer. So in this video, I take a look back at the history of Porsche Automotive and the iconic 911. Porsche was originally founded as a design firm that helped with projects like the Volkswagen Beetle, Mercedes Silver Arrow, and others. But then, World War 2 broke out and Porsche's founder, Ferdinand Porsche, was arrested for his Nazi assistance. While Ferdinand was in jail, his son Ferry ran the company. He decided that the Porsche Design Office should have its own sports car, so he built the Porsche 356. When his father returned from jail, they began production of the 356. Success on the track led to success in sales, and soon Porsche releases their seconds model, the Porsche 550 Spyder. A successor to the 356 was announced in 1963: the great Porsche 911. The 911 has experienced great success over the past 50+ years, and is now one of the most iconic sports cars of all time. A convertible Targa version was released in 1966, and the 911 Turbo came in 1975. During the 21st century, Porsche began expanding their lineup with cars like the Cayenne, Cayman, Panamera, and Macan. A few super-sports cars were also made, called the Carrera GT and 918 Spyder. 🔵REMEMBER TO LIKE AND SUBSCRIBE🔵
