One of my personal all time favorite Sonic fan games remastered. While I enjoyed Sonic After The Sequel DX, it was kind of buggy. Does this version improve upon the original Sonic ATS? Well, for the most part, yes.
Widescreen support, remade cutscenes as well as incorporating music that was missing in the DX version. It feels like an improvement across the board... except not really. Incoming rant below, so take my words with a grain of salt.
Sonic here feels heavier than in previous versions for starters (not to mention a bit unresponsive). While it doesn't seem like that from the footage shown here, trust me it is. Maybe Sonic Mania's controls spoiled me, but play this and Mania back to back and you'll feel the difference.
Second complaint, the boss fights (or at least the 2nd one near the end of the video). I know for a fact the bosses in Sonic ATS where too easy but this feels like the other extreme. They're hard and for all the wrong reasons. The Sugar Splash boss (which in previous versions Sugar Splash didn't have a boss fight), feels poorly designed. Basically you have to ricochet the balls Eggman throws at you into the bumper and from the bumper to the sides of the boss. Sounds simple, right? Except it's not. It feels luck based and combined with Sonic's slow ground acceleration (mid air acceleration is a lot faster and can throw you off when jumping) it makes this boss on ordeal. Not to mention you can't hit the sides with the balls directly (or can't touch them for that matter), it has to bounce off of the bumper.
If the rest of the bosses are like this, it kind of sours the overall experience IMO.
