Pennie is getting a CT scan tomorrow in the hopes 🙏 that we can confirm she has PRAA (Persistent Right Aortic Arch) which is a congenital abnormality that surgery can correct.
Take a look at her x-ray and notice that there is a part of her esophagus that is extremely narrow. A matter of fact, it is TOO narrow for food to pass through! When Pennie started eating solid food she began vomiting every time she ate, and not gaining weight. It turns out that food could not pass through this narrow space and would just come back up!
We are so grateful to our amazing doctor for discovering this. Pennie was immediately put on a liquid diet that she must eat standing up with the dish elevated.
As soon as we started this new feeding protocol, she kept her food down! But sadly, as she gets older, a liquid diet is just not enough nutrition and calories for her to grow, so she remains very thin 😕
In very simple terms, when kittens are in the womb, there is a small piece that blocks their esophagus since their nutrition enters their body a different way. But when they are born, this little piece falls off. When the piece doesn’t fall off, it is called PRAA (Persistant Right Aortic Arch) and if the CT scan confirms this, we can perform surgery to correct it 🙌
So, tomorrow is her big day! We need funds to make it happen, and prayers 🙏 that they find out it is operable, and she can lead a normal life!
